Approved installers

The concept of Approved installers (or Approved Plumbers) is a new direction for the water industry when compared to the water company byelaws which existed until 1st July 1999.

The intention is to provide clear guidance of the required standards and to provide customers with a benchmark similar to CORGI (for gas) and IEE / NIC for electrical works.

There are significant advantages for installers who are "Approved" within the notification process. Since they have proved their knowledge of the Water Regulations, they are exempt from the notification required prior to the installation of RPZ valves, ascending spray or flexible hose bidets and the extension or alteration of water systems at non-domestic premises.

In addition, there are significant advantages for customers who employ them.

Where an approved installer undertakes work, he (or she) will provide a certificate of compliance to the customer, which can, in most cases, prevent the end user from liability to prosecution in the event of the installation not being compliant to the requirements of the Water Regulations. In addition, there is the time factor involved with the absence of the need to notify and receive approval from the water supplier for certain works.

Over and above all of these factors is the increase in knowledge and quality of work which such a scheme provides.

Essex & Suffolk Water strongly recommend that any commissioned works are carried out by installers accredited under a Nationally recognised scheme. We also audit these installations to ensure that high standards are maintained.
