Environmental management system

Essex & Suffolk Water has had an environmental management system covering all operational and office sites since December 2004, which is now certified to the international standard for environmental management, ISO 14001.  Prior to this the environmental management system covered only wastewater sites and operations, some freshwater sites and operations, and leisure operations in our northern operating area.  The achievement of ISO 14001 across the whole company was a major step in helping NWL to fulfil its commitment to delivering continuous environmental improvement.

A key part of the system is the Significant Environmental Aspects Assessment (SEAA) database. This was developed in-house and records details of environmental aspects, impacts, assessments of significance and environmental objectives and targets for all company sites and teams.

Essex & Suffolk Water strives to continuously improve on its environmental objectives, working towards minimising the company’s local, national and international impacts on the environment.
