Investing for the future

In Essex and Suffolk we enjoy excellent drinking water quality and we continue to invest to improve service for you.

Ofwat, the water industry regulator, has recently approved price limits that will allow us to invest over £1 billion* over the next five years to protect drinking water quality, further improve service and ensure the security of water supplies for current and future generations.

We use the money you pay us in three main areas: investing in new assets to improve services, maintaining and replacing existing assets such as treatment plants and pipes and for daily running costs such as chemicals and power. Our charges represent excellent value for money.

This year we will be investing over £200 million* to:

• Begin the major project to raise the dam at Abberton Reservoir to increase water resources for Essex

• Manage the security of water supplies in Essex and Suffolk by keeping leakage down

• Make major improvements to water treatment works to enable us to continue to meet the highest drinking water standards.  Work will be carried out at Layer in Essex and Rickinghall in Suffolk

• Maintain our water treatment works, mains and pumping stations

* The investment figures quoted are for Northumbrian Water Limited, of which Essex & Suffolk Water is a part.
