We are proud to provide a sustainable, affordable, clean and safe water supply and to manage and treat the waste water returned to us in a way that protects the environment.
Where your money goes
In Essex and Suffolk we enjoy excellent drinking water quality and we continue to invest to improve service for you.
Ofwat, the water industry regulator, has approved price limits that will allow us to invest over £1 billion* from 2010 to 2015 to protect drinking water quality, further improve service and ensure the security of water supplies for current and future generations.
We use the money you pay us in three main areas: investing in new assets to improve services; maintaining and replacing existing assets such as treatment plants and pipes; and for daily running costs such as chemicals and power. Our charges represent excellent value for money.
This year we will be investing over £200 million* to:
• Continue major works to increase the capacity of Abberton Reservoir and its raw water supply infrastructure in order to secure the future drinking water supply for Essex.
• Subject to obtaining the necessary consents, we will start construction of innovative reed beds at Hanningfield water treatment works. This will enable sludge produced from water treatment to be dewatered for disposal with a significant reduction in carbon footprint whilst providing a new habitat for wildlife.
• Embark on a major programme of mains rehabilitation which reduces the risk of unplanned interruptions, discoloured water and leakage.
• Reinforce the network between Heveningham and Cratfield to solve low water pressure issues.
• Maintain our water treatment works, pipes and pumping stations.
