Occupational health and wellbeing

We are committed to protecting our people from any risks associated with the work they do for the company and to generally supporting and encouraging high levels of health and wellbeing.

Anyone in a safety critical role must pass a medical specific to their job and have successfully completed the necessary training to be safe and competent. These training and occupational health standards are defined for each role and you will be issued with a passport - mypassport - which allows you to demonstrate that you have met the standards.

For those people who do not work in safety critical areas, health screening opportunities are provided every 3 years when mobile units visit our key sites. These have helped with early identification of previously unknown conditions, eg high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Our Occupational Health Physicians support our people in the safe return to work from complex and long term illnesses. Clinics are held regularly at our key locations to provide specialist occupational health advice with reports shared with both the individual and the company.

Everyone is covered by some form of private medical insurance unless they have chosen to opt out. Our Back to Health scheme is offered free to all new employees and provides early intervention and support for conditions affecting their work in the company; the company also meets any tax liabilities that may be arise.

All employees and their families are also provided with access to an Employee Assistance Helpline, staffed by professionals who can provide support and guidance covering legal, stress and financial concerns.

Smoking is not permitted in any of our premises or in company vehicles unless they are specifically provided for an individual's exclusive use.
