Draft Water Resources Management Plan 2008

Essex & Suffolk Water has a statutory duty to prepare and maintain a Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) under the Water Resources Management Plan Regulations 2007 and Water Resources Management Plan Direction 2007.  Under these recent provisions of the Water Industry Act 1991, water companies are required to produce a draft WRMP for consultation with the public and specified statutory consultees. The plan effectively forms part of the water industry’s five year periodic review of price limits.

The WRMP shows how we intend to maintain the balance between supply and demand over the next 25 years.  A series of tables support the plan and provide our forecasts of demand, supply and other parameters over this period.  Both the WRMP and the tables are available to download via the indicated attachments.

Following consultation responses on the Plan we will produce a statement detailing the considerations given to the comments made which will be available on this website.  We will then consult with regulators with the aim of producing the final WRMP in July 2009.

Additionally Essex & Suffolk Water’s WRMP has also been the subject of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), which considers the effects on the environment of the various options considered to maintain water supplies in the future.  This is a requirement of the SEA Directive which came into force in July 2004.  Our SEA report is also being consulted on, with the consultation period being the same as the main WRMP, running from 2 May 2008 to 25 July 2008.  Comments from the public or statutory consultees are welcomed and should be forwarded to:
