WaterWalk & WaterRun will be returning to Lowestoft in September to raise critical funds in the fight against cancer.
Entries are now being taken for the event that takes place along the Lowestoft seafront on Sunday, September 6 2009. It is hoped that hundreds of people will complete either a three mile walk or a five mile run raising thousands of pounds in sponsorship for Cancer Research UK.
WaterWalk & WaterRun, which is sponsored by Essex & Suffolk Water, started in 2007 and has been growing in popularity and raising more vital funding each year. Last year more than 100 people of all ages completed the course from Royal Green along the famous Lowestoft coastline and the picturesque cliffs of Pakefield, raising more than £4,000.
One of the organisers Dee Chapman, customer manager for Essex & Suffolk Water based at St Mary’s contact centre in Lowestoft, said: “Every one of us will be touched in some way by cancer during our lives.
“WaterWalk and Run gives people the chance to celebrate survivors and remember those who have been lost to the disease while raising money to help find ways to prevent and cure cancer.
“The event is now in its third year and we are hoping to make an even bigger difference in the fight against cancer this year. To do that we need as many people to enter as possible. WaterWalk and Run is open to all ages and fitness levels. It is a fun family afternoon out and last year people came in fancy dress, walked their dogs and pushed young children in buggies alongside the more serious runners.”
Individuals, families and corporate teams are encouraged to take part. Entry costs £5 for individuals or £20 for teams of five. Children under the age of 14 are free but must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.
