Water way to keep cool

14/07/2006

Water customers are being urged to keep hydrated in the current hot weather.

Drinking tap water during warm weather can help people to stay healthy and alert and replace the water lost through the body.

A person loses about two and a half litres of water a day and, on hot days, or when exercising, that figure can double.

Essex & Suffolk Water wants customers to drink all the water need but they should also remember to use water wisely in their home and life.

Not getting enough water can result in dehydration, lethargy and headaches - just a 2% loss of body water can result in a 10% drop in physical and mental performance. The brain is 75% water so even moderate dehydration can cause headaches and dizziness.

Essex & Suffolk tap water is of a high quality and goes through 97 tests from its treatment from the raw material to the final product.

It also offers excellent value for money – 50 glasses of tap water costs around a penny.

Claire Bishop from Essex & Suffolk Water said: “It is important that all members of the family, from tots to grandparents, drink enough water to stay healthy in the heat.

“Keeping hydrated is a central part of that nutritional care and drinking regular amounts of water helps us to stay healthy and feel good.

“If you are out and about on a hot summer’s day, carry a bottle of tap water so you can have a drink whenever you want.”
