Water savings at shopping centre

Four water-saving towers have been installed at High Chelmer Shopping Centre as part of a water conservation project.

Water gathered in the towers will be used to irrigate the olive trees at the shopping centre and will also be used for external planting areas in Bellmead and Tindal Street.

The towers were donated to the shopping centre by Essex & Suffolk Water.

Claire Bishop from Essex & Suffolk Water said: “We are pleased to be able to help High Chelmer Shopping Centre with this project.

“In this dry part of the world we recognise that we have a long term responsibility to manage water usage and waste and this is an excellent way for the shopping centre to save and recycle water.”

The towers each hold 300 litres and will be installed at locations throughout the centre.

Mick McDonagh, centre manager of High Chelmer Shopping Centre said: “We are always striving to broaden our environmental credentials.

“I am delighted to be working in partnership with Essex & Suffolk Water to have achieved this excellent and simple common sense approach to water conservation in the heart of Essex.”
