Time running out to apply for funding

There is only a short time left this year for community organisations to apply for funding from the Essex & Suffolk Water Community Fund.

The deadline for applications to the fund, which provides an annual income to support people, events and projects within the local community, is 9 August  2006.

Grants from the fund, which is managed by Essex Community Foundation,  are available to encourage people to participate in local activities which will enhance their lives and create a resource to support the local community.

The fund covers four main areas: protecting the environment, promoting health and well being, education in the community and community support in areas of regeneration.

Any voluntary or community organisation within the counties of Essex and Suffolk that is situated or operates within the Essex & Suffolk supply area and fulfils at least one of the above criteria can apply to the fund.  Applications of up to £2,000 are preferred.

To date, the fund has distributed £23,443 to 37 charities and community groups in Essex & Suffolk.

Examples of grants awarded include £400 to Southend Women's Aid to enable them to recruit and train volunteers to support women and their families attending the centre.To apply for a grant or to find out more information contact Essex Community Foundation on 01245 356018 or visit their website www.essexcommunityfoundation.org.uk
