Water workers have helped to clear fallen trees created by high winds as part of a community initiative.
The employees from Essex & Suffolk Water spent a day at Essex Wildlife Trust visitor centre, near Hanningfield reservoir, clearing the trees and hedge coppicing under the company’s ‘Just an Hour’ scheme.
This initiative enables employees to devote at least 12 hours of work time to an approved community cause and is designed to improve local communities and the environment.
Hedge coppicing benefits wildlife as it provides a corridor for the wildlife to travel through. It also helps to prolong the life of the hedge.
Jacqueline Searle, communications advisor at Essex & Suffolk Water said: “We were delighted to be able to help clear up the fallen trees created by last week’s high winds and also to help encourage new growth by coppicing the hedges at the wildlife trust.
“Working on this project created a real sense of team spirit and gave our employees a sense of achievement.”
