Awash with awards

Water workers are drenched with delight after picking up a trio of prizes for their work to promote water efficiency.  The demand planning team at Essex & Suffolk Water were given two awards and a commendation at the Environment Agency Water Efficient Awards 2007, which were held on 6 March at the Energy Clinic in London.

The awards recognise organisations that cut down on the water they use, helping to conserve our country's precious water resources.  In addition to being crowned category winner in the Ofwat-sponsored economic research and innovation category, they also, unusually, won a commendation in this same category.

Both awards were for work the team had done on domestic audits which encourage customers to implement and monitor water-efficient practices at home.  The third was a special one-off award, the equivalent of the BAFTA lifetime achievement award, granted by the Environment Agency and given to Essex & Suffolk Water in recognition of their sustained effort and hard work in promoting water efficiency.

Jenny Abel from the demand planning team said: “We are delighted to get industry recognition. We take great pride in the fact that we are leading the way with our water efficiency projects. These awards are also a tribute to our 1.7 million customers who have worked with us to use water wisely.”  Graham Setterfield, chair of the judging panel said at the ceremony: “The track record of this company prompted us as judges to question whether a special award could be created in recognition of their sustained effort and hard work.
