Essex & Suffolk Water has hosted a conference in London to debate how much water people should use in their daily lives.
The event provided the opportunity to debate what is a realistic and reasonable amount of water for people to use and endeavoured to put it in context with other sustainable goals.
The conference is an example of how Essex & Suffolk Water works to find the best way to work with its customers to encourage them to use water wisely.
Speakers progressed the debate on sustainable living by considering all ‘green’ initiatives in a joined up way. It also looked at behavioural patterns of water use and how they can be influenced, and attempted to answer questions such as ‘how easy is it to encourage behavioural change?’ and ‘how is this best done’.
Ian Pearson MP, Minister of State (Climate Change and the Environment) and Regina Finn, Chief Executive Ofwat, lead an impressive line up of speakers at the conference.
John Devall, water and networks director at Essex & Suffolk Water said: “The conference proved to be a very worthwhile event which encouraged debate on water use and how the expectations and actions of customers and society have a vital role in getting the right balance between demand and the availability of water.
He added: “It is essential that sensible decisions are taken to ensure sustainable supplies are provided to take into account fully the needs of the environment and customers.”
Presentations from each of the speakers can be found on the Essex & Suffolk Water website at www.eswater.co.uk
