A new café which offers diners spectacular views of Hanningfield reservoir has been officially opened for business.

The Café on the Water on Giffords Lane offers visitors the chance to enjoy food from an extensive menu in a relaxing waterside setting.

It was opened by renowned Masterchef Mark Baumann, chef proprietor of Coggeshall restaurant Baumann’s Brasserie, who has also cooked for the Queen and trained at the Royal Champagne in France.

The new venue will serve a mouth watering selection of delicious main meals, sandwiches, salads and desserts from its “summer days” range. It also offers a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Café on the Water will be open over the summer from 7.30am - 5.00pm, seven days a week and also in the winter season too. There are ample parking facilities and an on-site shop which sells a range of clothing, confectionary, ices and leisure supplies.

The nature reserve next to the cafe is renowned for the wildlife it is home to and has proved very popular with bird watchers across the region. A walking trail will take you through to the nature reserve to the Essex Wildlife Trust’s Visitor Centre.

Perry Woolner, commercial manager said: “We are all very excited about this new venue and believe that it will offer visitors a great place in which to relax and dine. It is one of Essex’s best kept secrets!

“We are very grateful to Mark for coming along to open the cafe, he was very enthusiastic about the menu and the setting.”

Mark Baumann added: “This is a very worthwhile addition to the places to eat in Essex.

“It is an excellent place to enjoy a meal and take in the picturesque surroundings at the same time.”
