A flying start for fishing

A new weekend course to teach the art of fly fishing is coming to Hanningfield reservoir.

Participants will learn casting, knots, techniques, presentation, trout behaviour and safety.

The course will take place at Essex & Suffolk Water’s fishing lodge, Giffords Lane, and will be run by qualified instructors Hugh Nolan and Nigel Angus.

So far, three Saturday dates have been organised – July 14th, August 4th and September 8th. More dates could be added in the future subject to demand.

David Brown from Essex & Suffolk Water’s fishing lodge said: “Hanningfield reservoir provides water for customers of Essex & Suffolk but it also open for visitors to enjoy this beautiful landscape.

“This course will provide the chance to discover the art of fly fishing in a relaxing and scenic setting.”

Instructor Hugh Nolan, who has a Game Anglers Instruction Association qualification (GAIA) added:  
“Hanningfield is an excellent and peaceful location in which is learn to fly fish.

“This is an ideal introduction to the sport and participants will get the chance to go out with an experienced fly fisherman and fish for trout.”

The course costs £50 for a full day which includes all tackle and tuition with qualified instructors.
