A daredevil water worker is to fulfil a lifelong ambition by taking a terrifying plunge to raise money for charity.
Sarah Johnson, who works in Essex & Suffolk Water’s St Mary’s Call Centre, will perform a tandem parachute jump with the Tigers parachute team as part of the Lowestoft Airshow on July 27th.
Sarah’s dad was a flight safety technician in the RAF and, although she learned to pack a parachute at the age of five, she has not had the opportunity until now to take part in a jump.
Her daring feat at Old Buckingham Airfield will raise cash for SHIMS, a support group for people with
Multiple Sclerosis in Suffolk and Norfolk.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to come along to the airfield for Sarah’s jump. For details please call Claire Bishop on 07970 316618.
Essex & Suffolk Water is sponsoring the two-day Lowestoft Airshow and the company has chosen to support the Tigers parachute team.
As a result of this support, the Tigers offered a member of staff the chance to jump with them and Sarah’s name was chosen by a random draw.
The jump will see Sarah, who lives in Lowestoft, fall 5,000ft - the equivalent of one mile - from the Tiger team’s Nomad plane.
The Tigers are the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment Freefall Parachute Display Team and are one of the top display teams in the country.
Sarah, 36, said: “This is the first time that I have ever tried something like this so I am nervous but also so very excited by this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I have wanted to do this for many years and now is my chance. It is great that I will be raising money for a good cause at the same time.”
