Caring water workers have raised thousands of pounds to help terminally ill children.
Employees at Essex & Suffolk Water’s St Mary’s Call Centre in Lowestoft have raised £10,500 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Around £10,000 was raised over a year period through the company’s Care for Safety Challenge. This initiative rewards the reporting of health and safety issues by donating money to charity each time an accident is reported or an employee raises a concern which could help avoid an accident.
The remainder of the money was raised through employee collections, events such as fancy dress parties and the selling of EACH merchandise.
Money raised will go towards respite care for parents who have a child staying at Quidenham hospice.
Jackie Dyball from St Mary’s Call Centre said: “So many good things are done at the hospice and we are delighted to be able to support the work that takes place there.
“The Care for Safety Challenge is an excellent initiative as it benefits the company as well as charities.”
Carl Brooks, corporate fundraiser for the hospice said: “We are delighted by this contribution - the money will go towards the care of children at Quidenham.”
