Girl power victory

03/10/2007

Girl power won out and a group of water workers were crowned winners of a tough outdoor challenge.

The team from Essex & Suffolk Water came first in the ‘Best Ladies’ Team’ category of the Kielder Challenge, an annual adventure competition which has been running for 21 years and this year attracted 300 entrants.

The two-day challenge, organised by Reivers Development, took place in Kielder Water and Forest Park in Northumberland and tested each team in a range of areas including problem-solving, leadership and communication skills.

The Essex & Suffolk Water team – Megan Rogers, Liz Price, Liz Scott, Katie Murdoch, Natalie Wheeler and Hannah Gray  - tackled a series of tough assignments which included building a shelter for the night from limited resources, physical tasks and puzzles.

This is the second year that the team has entered the challenge – last year they received the trophy for ‘Best Newcomer Team’.

Liz Scott, captain of the Essex & Suffolk Water team said: “We are all very proud of our fantastic achievement - although the challenge was tough at times we managed to keep focused and have fun too.

“The event required the use of excellent team working skills, something which we can all take back to the workplace.”

She added: “We will definitely be returning next year to defend our title!”
