Cycle ride for a wheely good cause

08/11/2007

Pedal pushers from Essex & Suffolk Water have raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in a birthday bike ride.

A total of 53 employees took part in the event, which was organised as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th birthday of Hanningfield reservoir.

The ride raised £3,500 for the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity which offers therapeutic support and development to men, women and their supporters following a cancer diagnosis.

The ride took employees along a 50km route from Abberton reservoir, near Colchester to Hanningfield reservoir, near Chelmsford.

Kirsty Irvine from Essex & Suffolk Water said: “We were thrilled to be able to raise this amount of money for such a good cause. As a company we are committed to our local communities and are encouraged to take part in fundraising activities for the good of the local community.

“We all had an excellent time on the bike ride – it was great to know that our efforts were in aid of a very worthwhile charity.”

Gráinne James, Chief Executive of Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity said: "This is a fantastic achievement - well done to the staff of Essex & Suffolk Water for their great success and support.  The monies raised from the bike ride will be going back into the community."
