Nature nurtures charity calendar

19/11/2007

A calendar of nature photographs taken by water workers is helping to raise money for people who do not have access to clean water and sanitation.

The Essex & Suffolk Water 2008 calendar features nature images taken from overseas and all over the UK, including some taken on company sites.

Money raised from the sale of the calendar will go towards WaterAid, the international charity which aims to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

The pictures were originally taken as part of the Essex & Suffolk Water photographic competition, ‘wood you picture it?’ designed to raise awareness among employees of woodland biodiversity and the woodlands owned by the company.

The judges were so impressed by the high standard of entries they decided the images would also be an excellent way to raise money for WaterAid in the form of a calendar.

Each calendar is being sold for £2.50 and is primarily available to employees at Essex & Suffolk Water. A limited number is also available for sale at the fishing lodge at Hanningfield reservoir.

Helen Jacobs, senior conservation advisor at Essex & Suffolk Water said: “The standard of photographs was really impressive.

“This project has worked out really well – it has made people aware of the importance of our woodlands and raised money for an excellent cause.”
