A charity close to our hearts

25/11/2008

Water workers generously donated £2,030 to support the vital work of Fair Havens Hospice in Westcliff-on-Sea.

The charity was selected by Essex & Suffolk Water employees to receive all the proceeds from a recent dinner dance for Company employees and their families.

The money was donated in memory of Denise Marden in recognition of the support Denise and her family received from Fair Havens during Denise’s battle with cancer.  Denise was closely connected with Essex & Suffolk Water as wife of employee Paul Marden and was close to many other people from the Company.

Fair Havens provides a variety of services for patients and their families throughout the communities of Southend, Rochford and Castle Point. The Hospice opened its doors in 1983 and since then has cared for in excess of 18,000 patients and their families providing a range of services.

Fair Havens is part of Havens Hospices, which also incorporates Little Havens Children’s Hospice. Fair Havens is dedicated to providing love, care and support to adults and their families, and relies heavily on donations. Fair Havens Hospice needs to raise some £2.6 million to fund its services every year.

The dinner dance, which raised funds for Fair Havens Hospice, rounded off a week of events organised by Essex & Suffolk Water to support a number of local charities.

Jacqueline Searle from the Corporate Affairs Team said “Fair Havens is a charity close to the heart of a number of Essex & Suffolk Water employees, whose families have been supported during difficult times by the Hospice. We are delighted to have raised over £2,000 for this worthwhile organisation in memory of Denise.”
