Grants totalling £5,000 have enabled the charity Mencap to buy three interactive white boards for its Learning for Work Centre. The white boards will be used at the centre in Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, to help young people with learning difficulties to learn life and social skills.

Jocelyn Smith, operations manager at Mencap said: "The white boards have made such a difference to the way we teach, because they are interactive, they make learning so much more fun."

The funding to buy the white boards was awarded from Essex & Suffolk Water's Care for Safety Challenge which acknowledges the reporting of health and safety issues by donating money to charity and the Bartella Charitable Fund, which is managed by Essex Community Foundation.

Essex Community Foundation manages funds on behalf of individuals, companies, charitable trusts and public agencies who want their charitable giving to support local people.

The next deadline date for grant applications is January 9.
