Innovative waste water recycling in Essex could help tackle drought conditions in Australia.

The deputy speaker of the West Australian Parliament, Dianne Guise, paid a visit to the Langford Recycling Scheme last week, during a fact-finding mission.

Australia is currently undergoing its worst drought in 1,000 years due to changing rainfall patterns.

The Langford scheme, based near Maldon and owned by Essex & Suffolk Water, uses state-of-the-art technology to recycle treated waste water.

It can increase the water availability for Essex by 8 per cent.

Supply demand strategy manager Martin Lunn said the Langford scheme was the first of its kind in Europe.
