Walk or run for cancer charity

29/02/2008

THIS year's Water Walk and Water Run will take place at Lowestoft seafront on Sunday, June 8.

The event, organised by staff at Essex and Suffolk Water, was a big success when it was launched in 2007 attracting people of all ages.

Organisers are hoping that this year even more people will take part and help raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Individuals, groups of friends and corporate teams can all register to take part in either a three-mile walk or a five-mile run.

Both routes follow a route along the seafront from the Royal Green to Pakefield Cliffs before looping back and finishing on the Royal Green.

Organiser Dee Chapman said she hoped people would enjoy taking part and also raise funds for a deserving charity.

“Cancer is a disease that has no boundaries. It does not distinguish between the young, the old, between men or women and it can affect so many people at anytime.

“It is with this in mind that I appeal to people to take part in this event in order to help us beat cancer and for us to increase awareness so that we can reduce the risk of losing people we care so dearly about to this disease,” she said.

Ms Chapman also wants everyone taking part to enjoy themselves.

“We must not forget this event is also about having fun so why not wear fancy dress? After all it is for charity,” she said.

Paul Fleet, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK said last year's event raised £2,639 for the charity.

“We receive very little funding from the Government so donations like this make a massive difference. I encourage as many people as possible from the local area to get involved,” he said.
