Don't be late for the half marathon

Runners and spectators are under starter's orders not to be late on race day.

Sunday's Equity Insurance Brentwood Half Marathon and Fun Run will both start from Sawyers Hall Lane, Brentwood - the half marathon at 10am and the fun run at 10.20am.

The fastest 5k event runners are expected to cross the finish line just after 10.40am with an exciting half marathon finish predicted shortly after 11am

A number of roads will be closed for the start, and some will remain closed for the duration of the race to protect the safety of runners. Organisers advise people to allow plenty of time to get there.

Fun runners are being encouraged to wear fancy dress and sponsor Equity Insurance has offered prizes for the "most creatively dressed" adult and child.

The event is supported by Brentwood council, the Brentwood Gazette and Essex FM. A Gazette team will be covering the races.

First Aid facilities will be provided by St Johns Ambulance Brigade. Bottled tap water will be supplied en route and at the finish, courtesy of Essex & Suffolk Water.

Once again the Royal British Legion Junior Band will add to the occasion by playing at Sawyers Hall College and escorting the runners to the starts of both races. Refreshments, a sports shoe stand and sports massage facilities will be available at the secondary school.

Sawyers Church will be extending a warm welcome by providing a band, refreshments, craft activities, face and nail painting and children's inflatables.
