Writtle garden bound for Chelsea Flower Show

AN ESSEX garden is on its way to bloom at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Essex County Council in partnership with Chelmsford based Essex and Suffolk Water and Writtle College will be exhibiting Driest County, Floral Bounty' at the prestigious show.

Exhibitors have been asked by the Royal Horticultural Society to work towards the common theme Climate Change and its Effects on Gardens and Gardeners.' The project is led by the college and will be located in the Great Pavilion at Chelsea as part of the Lifelong Learning category of exhibits.

advertisementThe exhibit will be constructed and manned by students from Writtle who are studying for horticultural degrees.

Rosie Maguire, second year BSc Horticulture student, commented about her experience: "To be part of the build team for Chelsea 2008 means I am finally focusing on what I love most - constructing something beautiful."

The garden was designed by Steve Terry, senior lecturer in garden design, and includes a water feature, an English oak legacy bench, as well as a modern addition of an interpretation projector.

The show runs from Thurday May 22 to Saturday May 24 for the public.

The county council and ESW have joined forces to give residents the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the show.

They need to complete the competition in the April edition of EssexWorks, the county council's residents' magazine.

The closing date is May 18.

But those not lucky enough to win will be able to see the garden as it will be recreated at the college after the event.
