Water watchdog meets to discuss flooding lessons

22/04/2008

The Consumer Council for Water Central and Eastern Committee will be reviewing lessons learned following last summer’s floods when it meets on Wednesday 30 April in Peterborough.

The discussion will include steps water companies should be taking to ensure the resilience of their water supply network in an emergency.

Representatives from Severn Trent Water, Anglian Water, South Staffordshire Water, Cambridge Water, Tendring Hundred Water and Essex & Suffolk Water will be on hand to discuss the contingency plans they have in place as well as measures they would like to implement between 2010 and 2015. Members of the public are encouraged to join the meeting to raise any issues of interest or concern.

Sir James Perowne, Chair of the Consumer Council for Water Central and Eastern, said: “Each company will be reporting on what they have learned from last year’s floods, and the steps they have taken to make sure they are better prepared for emergencies. They will also be discussing further resilience work which may need to be put in place for the future.

“Security of supply is of utmost importance to consumers and we would like to see that appropriate contingency plans are in place.”

The meeting will take place at the Bull Hotel in Westgate, Peterborough between 11:00 am to 3:30 pm on Wednesday 30 April.
