Whittle Dene Reservoir Complex, Tynedale

Jamie Jasinski is our catchment adviser in the Whittle Dene sub-catchment and has been working across Northumberland and the Whittle Dene area since 2010. Jamie will deliver Pesti-wise, via a programme of intensive farmer engagement and on-farm interventions.

These will include farm appraisals to identify existing practices, equipment and pesticide handling facilities and to provide best practice suggestions and solutions to any issues identified.

Pesti-wise in the Whittle Dene catchment is currently supported by our equipment grants which farmers within the catchment may be eligible for:

Jamie will actively seek to identify potential users of metaldehyde, with an objective to reduce peak pesticide concentrations at the sub-catchment level and to raise awareness of the risks this active presents to Northumbrian Water.

In support of this work, we are monitoring metaldehyde concentrations in the Whittle Dene Reservoir complex and a control catchment, to evaluate the impact of the Pesti-wise project.
