Charges

The amount on your bill covers the cost of supplying you with clean water and of removing and treating your waste water.

We use the money you pay us in three main areas: investing in new assets to improve services and water quality, to maintain and replace existing assets such as treatment plants and pipes and for daily running costs. Our charges are excellent value for money and are amongst the lowest in the country.

Our prices change on 1 April each year and follow the rules set out in legislation and by Ofwat, the industry regulator. Domestic customers do not pay VAT on their water supply charges.

What is Rateable Value?

Water companies use Rateable Values to work out how much to charge people who don’t have a water meter.

The Values are set by the Valuation Office of the Inland Revenue and are loosely based on the annual rental value of the property.

How do we use Rateable Value to bill our customers?

We bill customers who don’t have a water meter by multiplying the Rateable Value by the charges for the water we provide to your home.

Thinking about getting a water meter?

Rateable Values are not set to the actual amount of water you use. That’s why a lot of our customers save money by having a water meter fitted.

Find out if you can save money by swapping to a water meter with our water usage calculator.

WaterSure

If you or someone in your household receives certain benefits or tax credits and you live in a property with a water meter, there are government regulations to protect you.

To qualify for WaterSure you must meet the above criteria and either have at least three or more children up to the age of 19, living with you at the property and for whom you are entitled to receive child benefit, or, someone in your household who has a medical condition which means they use a lot of water. If this applies to you, you do not have to pay more than the average bill for domestic customers on a water meter and could save money.

For the year 2019/20, you′ll pay no more than £255.75 for water charges and £188.00 for sewerage charges (if your sewerage services are provided by Thames Water). If your sewerage services are provided by Anglian Water they will bill you direct.
