The easiest way to find out is by logging in to your online account.

You can also check your latest bill, which will show if your home has a water meter.

Have you found any of the following around your home?

A leak in your home could be the reason for your higher water bill.

We recommend fixing leaks as soon as possible. Even a small dripping tap or leaking toilet can add up quickly. You pay for all the water you use, so the sooner you fix them, the better.

Leaks in your home or on your property are your responsibility to fix. You'll need to find a WaterSafe approved plumber.

The first thing to do is check your previous bill. Your bill may be higher if it includes increased charges, a longer billing period or an outstanding amount from a previous bill.

Our charges are updated every year on 1 April, so if your bill covers any time after this date, you may see an increase. You can find full details about our latest charges here.

As you don't have a water meter, your bill is based on the rateable value of your home, not how much water you use.

You may want to consider switching to a water meter to see if you could save money. Try our water usage calculator to estimate how much your bill would be on a meter. On average, homes with a water meter use up to 20% less water and save around £264 a year.

Can you see any signs of leaks on your property?

A leak is the reason your bill has increased.

Leaks inside your home and within your property boundary are your responsibility to fix.

Check your home insurance, as it may cover leak repairs. If you're not covered, you'll need to find an approved plumber at WaterSafe to repair it.

If you find and fix a leak within 30 days, you can apply for a leak allowance.

Have our charges increased since your last bill?

This may be the reason why your bill is higher than expected. Our charges are updated every year on 1 April, so if your bill covers any time after this date, you may see an increase.

Could any of these explain your higher bill?

If that sounds right, try our water and energy calculator to see how much water you're using and how you can save. You'll also be able to order free water saving products.
