In the news - July Edition
Your water and how it's used
So far this summer, our reservoir levels have fallen to 72% and demand for water has increased. On our busiest day we saw 592 million litres of water used in just 24 hours – enough for every customer in Essex and Suffolk to take more than four showers each. We're keeping a close eye on our water resources and doing everything we can to protect local supplies, including tackling leaks and bursts as quickly as possible. Read our latest water resource update.
Your water bill explained
Your water bill pays for much more than the water coming from your tap. It helps us:
- Deliver clean, clear and great tasting water for life's little moments.
- Find and fix leaks, and keep pipes working.
- Test and treat your water to the highest standards.
- Protect rivers, waterways and the environment.
- Invest in future improvements.

Layer Water Treatment Works upgrade

We're investing £29 million to improve the Layer Water Treatment Works, helping us continue to provide drinking water for our customers across mid-Essex.
As part of the upgrade, we're building a new sand storage and washing area, and installing a large new filter to help treat water even better. This filter is the first of its kind at this size in the UK.
These improvements will make the treatment process more efficient, help protect water quality, and support a reliable water supply for years to come.
Working together with Farrans Construction, we're helping to modernise one of Essex's most important water treatment sites, so it can continue to serve local communities now and in the future.

Improving Suffolk's water network

We're investing in a programme of water mains renewal projects across Suffolk to help provide reliable water supplies and reduce the risk of bursts.
Work is already underway in Fressingfield and Park Road, with another scheme planned to begin soon on Mellis Road in Yaxley. Together, these projects represent a multi-million-pound investment in replacing older pipes and strengthening the local water network.
We're carrying out the work with our partner T4 and carefully planning each stage to keep disruption to residents and businesses to a minimum. We'll continue to keep customers updated throughout the project.
Once complete, these improvements will create a more resilient network and help provide reliable, high-quality water supplies for local communities now and in the future.
