Abberton Scheme

Our Communities

Our Communities

The Abberton Scheme Neighbourhood Fund was set up to enable local voluntary or community organisations to apply for a grant. It was our way of saying thank you for the co-operation of communities affected by the scheme.

Although the Abberton Scheme is now complete, the fund is still available for applications and continues to be held and managed by the Essex Community Foundation. Essex Community Foundation, an independent charitable trust, is one of 63 community foundations across the UK who is playing a leading role in the development of local philanthropy and resources to sustain communities.

Abberton Rural Training

As part of the Abberton Scheme, funding was set aside to enhance educational opportunities for the communities surrounding Abberton Reservoir. This funding has been used to support the creation of a new rural skills training centre called Abberton Rural Training.
