Hanningfield Reservoir is recognised as a site of special scientific interest for its nationally important populations of wildfowl. It is amongst the top places in the country to watch both woodland and wetland birds.
Tufted Duck, Gadwall and all three types of British woodpecker can be found which makes Hanningfield an excellent place for nature lovers and bird watchers alike.
Hanningfield Reservoir Visitor Centre is set in a 100-acre woodland reserve beside the reservoir and managed by Essex Wildlife Trust. It is an ideal place to view the wildlife within the nature reserve and find out news on the latest sightings. The nature reserve offers some beautiful walks through the woodland, taking in bird hides, picnic areas, ponds and views across the reservoir.
The Essex Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre is open daily from 9.00am until 5.00pm.
Please be aware, in order to protect the local wildlife dogs are not permitted at this site, except guide dogs.
